The University of Portland recognizes the importance of conducting a broad spectrum of investigative research as well as classroom and laboratory educational activities that require the use of recombinant or synthetic nucleic acid molecules technology, infectious or potentially infectious agents, and/or involve human tissue or body fluids, or animals that may carry zoonotic disease.
The University Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) reviews and approves these activities to ensure that they are conducted in a safe and appropriate manner, and in accordance with the current editions of the National Institute of Health Guidelines For Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules, the CDC Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories, and the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) Standards for Bloodborne Pathogens.
Send any questions about projects requiring IBC review and approval to IBC@up.edu.
