UP UGR Opportunities

Below is a list of the undergraduate research opportunities available to UP students, listed in approximate order of the application due dates. UGR opportunities and their applications will be posted on Handshake.

  • Engineering Undergraduate Research (year-long)
    • Faculty members from Engineering collaborate with students on research projects in the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Students are compensated for this work.  

      Applications due in fall and spring semesters 

  • Public Research Fellows (year-long)
    • Interdisciplinary research program that supports faculty and student teams in the creation of public-facing projects that engage the humanities with world outside the classroom. Students receive academic credit for their work.  

      Applications due in late spring or summer 

  • Murdock Undergraduate Collaborative Research Program (year long; apply in junior year)
    • Designed for students pursuing a career in biomedical research, this is an opportunity for UP students to participate in ongoing research projects at Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU). Students receive a stipend and a small housing stipend.

  • Provost's Initiative Spring Cycle (spring semester)
    • Faculty members from across the University collaborate with undergraduates on a research project that extends throughout the spring semester. Students received 1-3 academic credits for this work, depending on the scope of the project. Students may wish to approach faculty with research ideas in late summer and early fall semester.  

  • Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) (summer)
    • Faculty members from the College of Arts and Sciences collaborate with students on research projects in their discipline. Students receive a stipend and optional on-campus housing.

      Applications due early spring semester.

  • Provost's Initiative Summer Cycle (summer)
    • Faculty members from across the University collaborate with undergraduates on a research project that extends throughout the summer. Students receive a stipend for their work and optional on-campus housing. Students may wish to approach faculty with research ideas in fall semester.
