Renter's Insurance

The Office of Residence Life is committed to providing students with a safe and secure environment where they can grow intellectually, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. However, the University assumes no responsibility in most instances if your personal belongings are lost or damaged in your room or in other areas of the hall, such as laundry rooms and trunk rooms. It is the responsibility of students to keep their rooms locked at all times.

Most likely, you will bring with you some expensive items to college: laptop computers, smart phones, bicycles, game consoles, textbooks, clothing and other items. The University recommends that all students have renter's insurance. Renter's insurance provides valuable protection if your personal belongings are stolen or damaged by a covered peril. Renter's insurance also protects you financially if you cause unintentional damage to your residence or become legally liable for bodily injury to others within your residence.

On college campuses, student bicycles, backpacks filled with electronics and books, and other valuable items can be targets for thieves. Remember that you are responsible for replacing stolen or damaged property, not the University of Portland.
