Two Year Residency Requirement & Experience

In support of the residential nature of UP and our emphasis on community, and based on longstanding research linking on campus housing with student and academic success in college, all full-time undergraduate students are required to live on campus during their first and second years at UP. For the purposes of this requirement, class year is based on total number of academic years in college.

Two Year Residency Requirement Exemptions

Students who will be in their second year of college may request to be exempt from UP's two-year residency requirement.

Exemptions will only be approved in cases where both of the following criteria are met:

  1. The student will be residing at home with parent(s) and/or guardian(s);
  2. The student will be residing at an address that is within a 20-mile radius of the UP campus.

A housing requirement exemption request form for rising sophomores who meet the above criteria will be available on this website soon. Students will be required to submit proof of a permanent address, within 20 miles of campus, with parent(s) and/or guardian(s). For questions, contact the Office of Residence Life at reslife@up.edu
