Welcome to the University of Portland!

Congratulations on your acceptance to University of Portland. We welcome you to UP's community and are excited for you to embark on your life as a Pilot! 

Following admission to the University - we ask for additional information from international students so that we can properly prepare any relevant travel documents. 

Arriving on campus - If you are new to UP it is required by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) that you bring the following immigration documents to ISS within the first 15 days of the start of classes:

  • Passport
  • Current I-20 or DS-2019
  • I-94 Arrival Record 
  • Proof of health insurance (for J-1 students only)

The Office of International Student Services (ISS) offers information, advising, and assistance pertaining to all student-related immigration issues including:

  • I-20s for students with F visas and DS-2019s for Exchange Visitor Program participants with J visas
  • Practical training, academic training, and other work permits for F-1 and J-1 students
  • School extensions and transfers
  • Status letters for U.S. consulates abroad, financial institutions, and the U.S. Social Security Administration
  • Contact and student advocacy with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services' (USCIS) Portland office and the Nebraska Service Center
  • Administration of the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program for visiting professors, scholars, and students
