Non-native English speakers must provide proof of English language competency. University of Portland accepts a number of language proficiency exams and benchmarks to satisfy this requirement.
English Exams and Minimum Score Requirements:
GTEC (Global Test of English Communication) for university students - score of 1181 or above
Duolingo - score of 105 or higher
PTE (Pearson Test of English) Academic exam - score of 58 or above
GCE or IGCSE (English- 2nd Language) – grade of A-C
IB (English –A & B) – grade of 7-4
IELTS – 6.5 overall and minimum 6.0 in reading and writing sections. IELTS at home test option available.
TOEFL (iBT) –71 overall and minimum 16 in reading and writing sections (the University of Portland TOEFL code is 4847) TOEFL will temporarily be offering an at home test option
SAT (Evidenced-based Reading & Writing) – 550
ACT (English section) - 21
Manchester Exam - 400
1 year (2 semesters or 3 quarters) of university-level coursework completed in the United States that includes 1 semester (or 2 quarters) of writing and composition with a final grade of C or better.
