All Recovery Community Support Meetings

  • How do I find the meetings?
    • These meetings take place weekly on Fridays from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm in Orrico Hall, Lower-Level Break room.
    • Public Entrance: To get to the Break room through the front door, go down the outdoor stairs on the side closest to the Shiley-Marcos Center. Scan your student ID on the card reader next to the door to get in. Once you enter the building, there will be a hallway on your left, take a right down this hallway and the break room will be the last door on the left.
    • Private entrance: on the side of Orrico closest to Mehling, there is a sidewalk that leads to the back door of the health center take the gravel path on the right, down the stairs to the door and use your student id to get in. The break room is the first door on the right.
  •  Who can attend?
    • SAMHSA defines recovery as " a process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live self-directed lives, and strive to reach their full potential."
    • These meetings are open to any student that is exploring healing based on a pattern of behavior or experience that caused them harm. This can include substance use, eating disorders, self-harm, mental illness, survivors of violence, and whatever brings you to want/need to explore recovery.
  • What can I expect?
    • Logistics
      • Meetings are drop-in, meaning you can join any time. If one is canceled, there will be signage on the door.
      • These meetings are private, meaning that everything shared in the room will remain between the participants and facilitator unless someone is in danger.
      • You are welcome to share or participate, but you are not required to. This can also be a space to silently reflect in community with other people who share your experiences.
      • This is a peer support group, not a therapy group, for therapy options check out the Counseling Center.
      • We will not debate experiences related to recovery. Everyone is welcome to explore recovery in ways that work for them.
      • We do not tolerate hate speech or disrespect towards Recovery Community participants, and if you are unable to be respectful to your peers you will be asked to temporarily or permanently leave the meetings.
