Mental Health

The UP Wellness Center sees mental health as one of the biggest challenges to student wellness. With the general stress of being a student, it is important for our community to build support by prioritizing mental wellness and interrupting norms that perpetuate unhealthy habits. To accomplish this: 

  • We work to build healthy habits: 
    • Check out @wellnesscenterup on Instagram for up-to-date information on events and mental health promotion programming.
    • Get involved with clubs like Active Minds.
    • Check out this Mental Health Toolkit created by IHW students that identifies key stressors for UP students and how to create healthy behaviors around the
    • Email wellness@up.edu to get more information on volunteering and internship opportunities.

  • We support our friends and build community around mental health: 
    • Reach out to wellness@up.edu for information on mental health training opportunities for students, staff, and faculty.  
  • We seek out help when we need additional support: 
    • Check out the Counseling Center: they provide free confidential mental health evaluations and support in person or via Zoom to UP students. 
    • Sign up for Bettermynd: they provide free teletherapy to all UP students with customizable appointment timing and a diverse selection of therapists that meet your unique needs. 
    • Utilize the Health Center:  they provide primary care that promotes mental wellness as a part of the health of the whole person, and can provide support for medication management. 
    • Submit a Care Team referral: you can submit a referral for yourself or someone else who may be struggling with mental health or any other concerning situation. They provide individualized support to find health and safety for any UP student.
