Community and Belonging
During your time as a student, it is essential to engage in your community and find your niche. This is a protective factor against a variety of physical and mental health issues and is one of the most exciting benefits of going to a university. Though, finding community and looking for friends can sometimes be a challenge. Here are some ways to find where you belong at UP:
- Find an identity-based group to join: Leaving home for the first time can separate us from our identity-based communities that make us feel welcome and comfortable, if you feel this way, look up identity-based categories on Engage to see if there is a student association you can join to find new communities.
- Check out a Wellness Ambassador Event: If you live in the res halls, you have access to events put on by the wellness ambassadors. These events can be anything from a movie night to a study night to a trivia competition, ask your RA when the next one is!
- Get involved at the Wellness Center: Looking for an opportunity to volunteer? Email the wellness center to help with events, work on programming, and meet other students interested in getting involved.
- Look into an on-campus job: Getting an on-campus job is a great way to meet other students and learn more about how the UP community functions, check out the student employment site for more information.
- Go to a Wellness Promotion event: Check out @wellnesscenterup on Instagram to see up to date programming information.
- Get Involved with the Moreau Center: If getting involved in your community is your jam, check out the Moreau Center for a variety of opportunities for service and leadership.
