Job Description
Peer Health Educators support the growth, education, and development of students, faculty, and staff, with a special focus on health and wellness. Peer Health Educators are an essential part of promoting health, wellness, and culture change in the University of Portland campus community. The position will work on topics such as mental health, eating disorders, drug and alcohol use, nutrition, exercise, sleep, coping skills, resiliency, violence prevention, and more. Reporting directly to the Wellness Promotion Coordinator, this position also works to bridge the gap between students and the Wellness Center, gathering student feedback and responding to campus needs. Student will work an average of 5-8 hours per week and will be paid Portland Metro Minimum Wage. Upon positive evaluation by supervisor and Wellness Center staff, the employee may be hired on for another academic year.
Job Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
- Facilitate public health outreach and workshops on various health topics, in collaboration with the Wellness Promotion Coordinator.
- Develop new programs and materials for the continued promotion of health and wellness.
- Marketing and advertising events and announcements related to wellness and from the Health and Counseling Centers. This includes assistance managing social media platforms, communicating with the Beacon, developing posters and other materials.
- Assist in planning Fall orientation events and working at student involvement fairs.
- Collaborate with Residence Halls and other campus partners to promote holistic well-being.
- Collaborate with community partners and organizations, as needed.
- Participate in mandatory trainings, professional development workshops, and meetings.
- Assist in the research and evaluation of programs and events to ensure their effectiveness.
- Follow the University of Portland requirements for student employment, including prompt submission of timesheets.
- Administrative support and other duties, as assigned.
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including public speaking, listening, and professional writing skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative
- Ability to think creatively and outside the box
- Strong commitment to confidentiality and willingness to sign a confidentiality agreement
- Professional and timely in response to email, phone, and in-person correspondence
- Able to work a minimum of 5 hours each week, including some evenings and weekends
- Cumulative GPA of at least 2.75
Preferred Qualifications:
- Green Dot Bystander Intervention certified
- Experience with social media platforms and graphic design
