Elementary SUN
Elementary SUN Volunteers build relationships with elementary school students at César Chávez and James John Elementary through playing games, tutoring and doing activities together after school. It is a safe, supportive environment for kids, and they love having UP students come hang out with them! SUN Programs operate Mondays through Thursdays and volunteers are able to go whatever day/time fits with their schedule.
Students do not have to stay for the entire time slot if they have a conflict with their schedule.. For example, if a student isn't available until 3:45 PM, they could volunteer from 3:45-5:30 PM as long as they communicate clearly with the Site Manager.
We ask that students commit to volunteering at least once a week on a consistent day for a full semester. This is important, as students build relationships with the youth they engage with. The schools are close to UP's campus and students can walk, take the bus, or borrow a Moreau Center vehicle to drive to programming.
James John hours: Mondays through Thursdays 2:30-5:00 PM.
César Chávez hours: Mondays through Thursdays 3:00-5:30 PM.
